Types of Therapy

As an experienced and qualified therapist, I use a number of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Humanistic Gestalt, and Mindfulness amongst others. However, I am client led and believe the most important factor in therapy is the therapeutic relationship that we create.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy that aims to help people manage their problems by identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours, essentially focusing on how your thoughts influence your feelings and actions, allowing you to respond to situations in a more effective way; it's commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be applied to various mental health concerns.

Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic therapy is a type of talking therapy that focuses on helping people develop a strong sense of self. It's based on the idea that everyone has the potential for personal growth and self-actualisation. Humanistic therapy focuses on a person's unique perspective on the world. It emphasises free will, human potential, and self-discovery. It aims to help people explore their feelings, find meaning, and focus on their strengths. It can help people develop their ability to use their instincts to find wisdom, growth, healing, and fulfilment.

Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy is a holistic approach that combines techniques from different schools of therapy to create a customised treatment plan for each client. It can help people with a variety of conditions, including depression, anxiety, and trauma.  Integrative Therapy focuses on emotions, rather than just thoughts and behaviours. It integrates physiological, cognitive, behavioural, and other systems. The therapy creates a relational framework that's unique to each client and emphasises building a strong relationship between the therapist and client.
